Digital Signature Suite for authentication and signing of critical operations in Home Banking

Banco Santander decided to raise its security levels and improve the experience of its Cash Management and SME Banking customers. The goals were to fully digitize 100% of transactions securely, increase online operations via the Internet, ensure customer identity, and prevent phishing attacks. The challenge was to implement a robust solution that integrated strong authentication and digital signing in the same flow, without affecting the usability of the Home Banking platform.

Banco Santander became a Certification Authority under the CertiSur root, allowing it to issue its own digital certificates to the authorized signatories and representatives of its corporate clients. Through Alison, customers authenticate and sign electronic documents directly from the Home Banking platform, with no additional software required. The most critical operations — transfers, agreements, and contracts — are now conducted entirely online with full legal validity, replacing paper-based processes with secure and auditable digital workflows.
